Luanda: The new president of the Wide Convergence for Angola’s Salvation - Electoral Coalition (CASA-CE), Manuel Fernandes, sworn in last Friday, proposed the revitalization of the organization.
Elected last Tuesday, replacing André Mendes de Carvalho, the new leader declared that the revitalization will go through an enlargement of the grass-roots structures, as well as the preparation of the cadres for the electoral challenges.
Manuel Fernandes also aims at the affirmation of the coalition as the third strongest political organization
Among the priorities of the CASA-CE's new president is the restoring of the dynamics of political action and opening up to "citizens interested in fighting for a better Angola".
The politician spoke of a socio-political agenda, believing that poverty could be ended through solidarity and patriotic sense.
Manuel Fernandes was elected with four votes in favor and two abstentions during a meeting of the presidential college of CASA-CE, which has 16 deputies in the National Assembly (parliament).
André Mendes de Carvalho has resigned after pressure from four of the six coalition parties, founded in 2012.
Against the removal of André Mendes de Carvalho were the Democratic Bloc (BD) and the Support Party for Democracy and Development of Angola-Patriotic Alliance (PADDA-AP), the two who abstained on Tuesday's vote.
The coalition's first president and founder, Abel Chivukuvuku, was expelled in 2019 for an alleged breach of confidence.
CASA-CE is made up by the Angolan Majority Free Alliance (PALMA), Angolan National Salvation (PNSA), Angolan Peaceful Party (PPA), Democratic for the Progress of Angolan National Alliance (PDP-ANA), Support Party for Democracy and Development of Angola-Patriotic Alliance (PADDA-AP) and the Democratic Bloc.
