Luanda - The Ministry of National Defense and Veterans of the Homeland congratulated the Cuban Armed Forces (FAR) on its 64th anniversary of its existence.
According to a note from the Ministry of National Defense and Veterans of the Homeland that reached Angop on Thursday, the FAR, through its unique heroism, fearlessly fought to achieve the triumph of the Cuban revolution.
It thanks the FAR combatants who along with the Angolans contributed greatly to the preservation of national independence of the territorial integrity of Angola.
The performance of the FAR fighters contributed to the creation of a bond of brotherhood and made them inseparable from Angolans on all fronts, including the prevention and combat of the COVI-19 pandemic, adds the note.
The Ministry of National Defense and Veterans of the Homeland wishes that Angola and Cuba will continue to walk together in a climate of mutual esteem and uninterrupted bonds of brotherhood and solidarity.
Relations between the two states go back to the time of the Cold War (ended in 1991), after the proclamation of national independence of Angola in 1975.
It was in the midst of the post-independence conflict, with the then People Republic of Angola fighting against invasion by foreign forces, that Cuba gave the first signs of rapprochement and solidarity.
The partnership between the two countries began with technical-military collaboration, taking into account the unstable situation at the time, but began to change in February 1976, with the signing of the first General Cooperation Agreement.
