Luanda - The Minister of Defence, Former Combatants and Veterans of the Homeland, João Ernesto dos Santos, praised this Wednesday, in Luanda, the positive performance of the Angolan National Police, in actions aimed at reducing the rate of crime and road accidents.
According to a press release sent to ANGOP on the occasion of the celebration of the 48th anniversary of the National Police, marked today, the government official also highlighted the increase in levels of tranquility and public security, making Angola a good place to live and work.
João Ernesto dos Santos called on the police forces to continue to selflessly pursue their important and noble mission of guaranteeing the security and public order of the Angolan State.
National Police Day is celebrated every year on February 28th, because it was on this date that, in 1976, the first President of Angola, António Agostinho Neto, presided, at the Mártires do Kapolo Police School, in Luanda, over the ceremony of oath of the initial contigent of 383 personnel.
Originating from the Public Security Police (PSP), a former corporation of the Portuguese colonial administration, the National Police has undergone a series of resizings since 1975, after National Independence, starting with the People's Police Corps of Angola (CPPA).
As a result of the transformations carried out at the time with the integration of several police and non-police bodies, the CPPA became known as the Angola Police Corps (CPA) and subsequently, in 1983, became known as the National Police (PN), which remains to this day.
