Ondjiva - Namibian minister of Internal Affairs, Protection and Security Albert Kawana reaffirmed his country's commitment to work in the strict fight against trafficking and smuggling of illegal weapons to Angola.
The official made these statements on Wednesday, in the Namibian town of Oshikango, at the end of a working meeting between ministerial delegations from Angola and Namibia.
The meeting review the security at the common border, as part of the Joint Defence and Security Commission.
The minister defended the need to increasingly implement joint operations to weaken the ability of criminal organisations to transport and export illicit material.
As for the general elections in Angola, scheduled for August this year, the official urged the strengthening of operational actions to control cross-border crimes, so that the election takes place in a peaceful and secure environment.
“The internal security of the two countries is fundamental and, therefore, we will take all the necessary measures, based on the special joint force, to neutralize any criminal action that endangers or destabilises the climate of peace in Angola”, he asserted.
He praised the existing cooperation between the defense and security forces and the spirit of good neighborliness between the two States.
Bilateral talks focused on cooperation in the fight against terrorism, smuggling of firearms and fuel, as well as the exchange of information related to criminal investigation, migration, penitentiary, civil protection, among others.
