Luanda - Angolan minister of Interior Eugênio Laborinho Thursday recognised the alleged use of excessive force by some National Police officers while performing their duties, but he asked the society to continue trusting the corporation.
The official was speaking at closing ceremony of the sector’s Consultative Council, reiterating that the staff still make some mistakes and he pledged to correct them over the time.
Eugênio Laborinho, who apologised the society for the mistakes, asked the citizens not to regard the forces of defence and security as enemies but engage in building a climate of empathy.
He urged everybody to understand the work done by police officers, justice surveillance, aimed at protecting those who are right and punish the offenders.
The official mentioned the Angolan Constitution clarifying that despite the fact of the citizens to be free to stage demonstrations, it is not right to prevent the others from moving nor damage the public and private goods.
“There is no absolute right, and the Police are not against the citizens but enforcing the principle of legality. We defend more empathy between the forces of order and the population”, concluded Eugênio Laborinho.
