Luanda - Deputy David Mendes accused, last Thursday, the leader of UNITA party, Adalberto Costa Júnior, to be "financing political unrest campaigns through the social networks".

Speaking at a press conference, regarding his resignation from the Parliamentary Group of the largest opposition party, the independent parliamentarian said he had evidence to support all his accusations.

"A lot that is on social network is paid by Adalberto Costa Júnior. There is, in fact, one person of the Revolutionary Movement that has been writing messages against me from Brazil. What people don't know is that he is in Brazil with a scholarship paid for by the president of UNITA", denounced the deputy.

David Mendes said he spoke personally with UNITA’s deputy Nelito Ekuikui to block the elements that spread messages on social networks, for being offensive and intolerant for those who speak out against the UNITA leader.

"The demonstration of October 24, the demonstration for November 11 and February 4, 2021 have been schedulled", assured the parliamentarian, who said he had already sent to the party’s whip his official request to leave the UNITA Parliamentary Group.

Independent MP David Mendes announced last Sunday, in Luanda, that he would formalize his resignation from UNITA’s Parliamentary Group.

The lawyer also justified the decision with an alleged lack of solidarity from the party in regard to the death threats he says he has received.

Last week, David Mendes was morally offended and received deaths treats from a group of young people, on the social networks, for criticizing the UNITA´s involvement on the October 24 riot attempt.

The young people went against the deputy for having condemned the participation of UNITA in the demonstration "organized by civil society".

In a press release, to which ANGOP had access, the UNITA Parliamentary Group thanked David Mendes for having joined the bench and lent his knowledge to the parliamentary Group.

He recalled that, as a commentator on the Revista Zimbo Tv programme, on Sundays, the deputy has always mentioned that he did it as an independent MP, because this was always his line.

According to the Parliamentary Group, David Mendes' attitude would be framed in an agenda policy that aims to denigrate the figure of Adalberto Costa Júnior.

David Mendes, a lawyer by profession, is president of the Popular Party (PP) and ran as independent, by UNITA, in the 2017 General Elections.
