Oslo - Norwegian oil company Equinor has expressed interest in cooperating with Angola’s counterpart Sonangol in the field of Research and Development Center (CPD), whose first phase of operation started last May.
The centre, which is being implemented in coastal Cuanza Sul province’s Sumbe city, is dedicated to studies in the areas of Geosciences, Innovation, as well as in the field of energy transition.
Angolan Minister of Natural Resources, Oil and Gas Diamantino Azevedo said Friday in Oslo, Norway, that Equinor's interest is synonymous with strengthening the company's activity in Angola, where it has been operating since 1991.
“It is an important partnership and must continue”, said Diamantino Azevedo, who is joining the President João Lourenço's entourage on two-day visit to Norway, which is due to end Friday.
Equinor is responsible for ten percent of oil production on Angolan soil. It has equity interests in several oil blocks in Angola.
Renewable energy
In the field of renewable energies, the minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, who is also part of President João Lourenço's delegation to Norway, said that the Norwegian company Scatec Solar will invest around 300 megawatts of solar energy, a private investment.
"The Angolan government is interested in these projects being quickly implemented in the country, with emphasis on the eastern region", he said.
Scatec Solar is involved in the installation of photovoltaic equipment, wind and solar energy.
