Dundo –The political-administrative division of five provinces in the country will not disrupt the general elections scheduled for 2022, said Thursday the minister of State and head of the Civil Affairs Office to President of the Republic.

Adão de Almeida was speaking at consultation meeting on the proposed political-administrative division of the provinces of Malanje, Cuando Cubango, Moxico, Lunda Norte and Uíge.

There is no connection and  the constitutionally set electoral calendar must be fulfilled, in compliance with the norms of the Constitution of the Republic, he said.

The official clarified that the political-administrative division seeks to bring public services closer to citizens, creating conditions for the country to develop, with less inequality and asymmetries, between its various regions.

“The political-administrative restructuring aims to improve the management of the territory and does not put into question the safeguarding, defence and preservation of national unity”, he stressed.

Adão de Almeida recalled that the President João Lourenço created last July the Multi-sector Commission to change the Political-Administrative Division of the country, covering the provinces of Cuando Cubango, Lunda Norte, Malanje, Moxico and Uíge.

The objective is to ensure greater approximation between administrative entities and citizens, as well as a fairer and more balanced management of the national territory.

The Executive opened Tuesday the process of public consultation on the change in the political-administrative division of the country, which will run until the 16th of September.
