Mbanza Congo - At least 1,800 land border violation attempts were reported in November this year, according to the border police.
The violation attempts were recorded at the borders of the provinces of Zaire (north), Cunene (south), Lunda Norte (north-east), said the border police commander commissioner chief José Domingos Moniz on Monday in Mbanza Congo, northern Zaire province.
Speaking to the press during his visit to the region, José Domingos Moniz said the borders of the provinces of Zaire, Cunene and Lunda Norte are the most targeted by illegal immigrants, mostly from African countries.
More than 11,000 illegal immigrants were questioned in connection with the attempts to violate the land border, the high ranking officer said.
On the first day of his visit, the national commander of border police met with the provincial governor of northern Zaire province, Adriano Mendes de Carvalho.
Zaire province shares a 310-kilometer border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
