Parliament ratifies Angola and Spain security agreement

  • National Assembly
Luanda - The Angolan parliament on Monday ratified the cooperation agreement between the Republic of Angola and the Kingdom of Spain on security and the fight against crime.

The draft resolution was unanimously approved at the 7th Ordinary Plenary Meeting, chaired by the Speaker of the sovereign body, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos.

The agreement makes Spain a strategic partner of Angola in terms of security and fighting crime, taking into account the real operational capacity and technical and technological means of that European country in terms of security, prevention and fighting of criminal offences.

The legal instrument aims to provide assistance and technical advice for the prevention and fight against crime, such as crimes of terrorism, illegal detention, kidnapping of persons, illicit production and trafficking of drugs, human beings, computer crimes, environmental crimes, among others.

The Agreement was signed in November 2018 in Madrid and repeals the previous one from 1997. It also establishes the training of cadres, air traffic safety control, management of criminal investigation services, migration and foreigners, prison services, as well as civil protection and firefighting.

By entering into this Agreement, the Angolan State undertakes to fulfil its responsibilities arising from this legal instrument.

The plenary also unanimously ratified the Cooperation Agreements between the Ministries of the Interior of Angola and Hungary in the area of Internal Order and Security, and between Angola and Equatorial Guinea, in the same area.
