Luanda - The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, assured Friday, in Luanda, that the Executive is managing to implement the broad program of construction, reconstruction and rehabilitation of hospital units at three levels, from primary to tertiary.
João Lourenço, who was speaking after the opening of the Hospital Geral de Viana “Bispo Emílio de Carvalho”, explained that despite the financial difficulties, the program is ongoing and sometimes the idea is that we are just building hospitals with more than 200 beds, because at this level they are inaugurated by the Head of State.
He guaranteed that the Executive is building, with resources from the General State Budget (OGE) and the Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM), mainly, "the so-called proximity units", in the most remote areas of the country, among other infrastructure -structures.
The President highlighted that many hospital units in the municipal category and below are being built in the country with PIIM resources.
Human Resources on the other hand, the President of the Republic highlighted that hospitals alone do not cure anyone, which is why the importance of infrastructure was added and giving greater importance to professionals who will bring health to patients to improve considerably.
Recalled that the Ministry of Health is admitting thousands of Angolan citizens annually through public competition, mainly doctors and nurses, as well as diagnostic technicians and providing training in reference hospitals.
Despite the lack of a University Hospital as such in the country, health units of references such as the “Cardinal Dom Alexandre do Nascimento”, “Materno-Infantil Azancot de Menezes”, “Walter Strangway”, in Bié, the recently opened “Emílio de Carvalho and the Military Hospital”, are functioning as learning places.
He highlighted that the human factor is fundamental and Angola is not neglecting this aspect when it opens tertiary category hospital units.
Opening The General Hospital of Viana Bispo Emílio de Carvalho, with capacity for 356 beds, half of which are reserved for pediatrics, was inaugurated this Friday by the Head of State, João Lourenço.
The health unit, located in the Urbano do Zango district, municipality of Viana, built in three years, was budgeted at 125 million and 500 thousand euros and will employ 1,200 employees, including doctors, nurses, imaging and laboratory technicians.
With five surgery rooms, eight inpatient wards, a centralized diagnostic center, the unit also has an emergency service, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, orthopedics and general medicine sectors.
In external consultations, it has other services, such as general clinic, cardiology, neurology, otorhinolaryngology, ophthalmology, orthopedics/traumatology, gynecology/obstetrics, stomatology, urology, general surgery, anesthesiology and oncology, as well as endoscopy services, laboratories, imaging, dialysis, and rehabilitation and therapy.
