Beijing – The Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, stated this Friday, in Beijing, that the People's Republic of China is an essential partner, with which he intends to expand the strategic partnership.
When speaking at a meeting with the Speaker of the National People's Assembly of China, Zhao Leji, João Lourenço defended more regular political consultations at all levels to fulfill this aim.
According to the President, these consultations must cover, in addition to the governments, the political parties that lead the two states, the Chinese Communist Party and the MPLA (Angola).
João Lourenço understands that holding more regular political consultations would help to dilute possible misunderstandings, contribute to international issues of common interest, and create the basis for discussions with greater convergence of points of view, attentive to the concerns of each party.
President João Lourenço has been in the capital of the People's Republic of China since Thursday, leading a ministerial delegation that will discuss the new terms of bilateral cooperation.
For three days, delegations from Angola and China will reassess the instruments governing bilateral cooperation and identify new areas for strategic partnership outside the domain of oil, Angola's biggest product sold.
Before meeting with the Speaker of the National People's Assembly (Parliament), Zhao Leji, the Head of State met with Chinese Premier Li Qiang.
The highlight of this first day is the meeting between João Lourenço and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping.
