Luanda - The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, lamented this Saturday the death of Leda Neto, the youngest daughter of the first president of independent Angola, Dr. António Agostinho Neto.
Leda da Silva Neto died this Saturday morning, at Hospital da Luz, in Lisbon, Portugal, at the age of 57, victim of illness.
In a message addressed to the bereaved family, President João Lourenço mentions that, in life, the daughter of Agostinho Neto and Maria Eugénia Neto knew how to honour her father's legacy.
According to the Angolan President, Leda Neto “with simplicity and much humbleness, put her knowledge at the service of the aggrandizement of the homeland of Agostinho Neto, her illustrious father”.
“I express our indefectible solidarity to the whole bereaved family in this moment of deep pain”, concluded João Lourenço.
Leda da Silva Neto, who was receiving medical treatment at Hospital da Luz, was born on January 5, 1964, in Brazzaville, capital of the Republic of Congo.
At the time, her parents were living in that country, due to the political struggle for the Angolan independence.
