Luanda - The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, paid homage this Thursday in Luanda, the African handball champions, for the 14th title won in the recently ended African championship of the sport, held from 8 to 18 June in Yaoundé (Cameroon).
During a ceremony at the Presidential Palace, the Head of State underlined that this was the 14th time that the handball team has won a title in Africa.
The President João Lourenço also referred to the fact that, at a time when the national sport is not going through its best moment, the national women handball team is making a big difference.
For this reason, the President of the Republic, on his own behalf, of his family and of the Government that he heads, congratulated the athletes that make up this national squad, the technical team, as well as the management of the Angolan Handball Federation, for this great achievement that places the country at the highest point of sport at the level of the African continent.
"The Angolan people have no words to thank for this achievement," he said.
In his speech, he also made reference to the fact that he met, very recently, with the directors of the different sports federations, with the objective of finding the best ways to put national sports in the place it deserves.
