Luanda - The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, participated last Saturday, by videoconference, in the 34th ordinary session of the African Union (AU), which analyzed the report on the institutional reforms underway in the organization.
The videoconference was chaired by the outgoing AU President and South African Head of State, Cyril Ramaphosa, the session also analyzed, among other documents, the report on Covid-19 on the continent.
Speaking to the press in Luanda, at the end of the meeting, the Angolan minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, highlighted the reelection of Angolan Josefa Sacko, for another four years, as AU commissioner for Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy and Sustainable Environment.
The voting process, which reconfirmed the Angolan candidate in the position, took place on the sidelines of the first day of the Conference of Heads of State and Government, organized by videoconference from the organization's headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Regarding the re-election of Josefa Sacko, minister Téte António said it was a victory for the country that in three days managed to elect three officials for the organs of the African Union.
Before Josefa Sacko, the country had already managed to elect university professor Wilson Almeida Adão, to be a member of the Committee of Experts on Child Welfare and the judge, Pascoal António Joaquim, who is part of the Committee of the Advisory Council of African Union Commission for Corruption.
Asked about the presidency of Félix Tshisekedi in the AU, the head of Angolan diplomacy said that the statesman of the DRC will have the support of the organization's committee.
During the 34th ordinary session of the AU, South Africa passed the testimony of the AU presidency to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The African Union considers 2021 the "Year of Art, Culture and Heritage: Levers to Build the Africa We Want".
The year 2020 had as theme "Silence Arms: Creating Favorable Conditions for Africa's Development".
