Luanda - The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, received Tuesday in Luanda the second dose of the Sputnik V vaccine against Covid-19.
The President and the First Lady, Ana Dias Lourenço, received the first dose of the vaccine, on May 13 of this year.
This Tuesday, the First Lady, Ana Dias Lourenço, the Vice-President of the Republic, Bornito de Sousa and the Speaker of the National Assembly, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, also received the second dose of the vaccine against Covid-19.
The Russian-made Sputnik V is among the most used in the world to prevent cases of infection against Covid-19.
According to experts, the immunization has a scientific efficacy of 97 percent, in two doses.
The vaccination plan underway in Angola aims to immunise around 54 percent of the population, a total of 16.8 million citizens over the age of 16, reduce mortality, the rise in cases of Covid-19, as well as allowing for the resumption of normal economic and social activities.
In Angola, the vaccination campaign against Covid-19 started last March, and in the first phase, it covered health professionals, defence and security forces, elderly people, people with co-morbidities, teachers, population over 40 years old, among other citizens.
The President of the Republic has been praised and encouraged to pursue the Government measures to mitigate the negative impact of the Covid-19 pandemic in Angola.
In the country, the first two positive cases of Covid-19 were reported on 21 March 2020.
