Luanda - The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, Wednesday reiterated the Angolan government's engagement in establishing and consolidating a society that respects the rule of law and the construction of a market economy.
João Lourenço was speaking virtually from the Presidential Palace, in Luanda, as a special guest at the opening session of the 44th session of the Board of Governors of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), which has its headquarters in Rome, Italy.
He said that his government aimed to effectively diversify the national economy and change, in definitive terms, the economic structure of the country, which is very dependent on resources from the oil sector.
He added that the Angolan government had been taking measures to combat practices that were neither healthy nor recommendable for the management of the country's public life and which, because they were so common, were becoming a serious threat to the country's prestige.
From the economic point of view, President João Lourenço stressed, Angola has developed several initiatives to improve the business environment in order to attract more and more direct private investment, both domestic and foreign.
In the Head of State's opinion, Angola needs to encourage growth in the non-oil sector of its economy, as this is the sector that can create the most jobs, thus putting the country in a better position to contribute to increasing the income and well-being of its citizens.
The President of the Republic underlined the fact that the Government is paying special attention to agriculture, agro-industry, fisheries, extractive and manufacturing industries, construction, tourism and other labour intensive sectors.
