Luanda – The Permanent Representatives Committee (PRC) of the African Union will hold its 41st Session on 20 - 21 January, Angop has learnt.
The online event will precede the 38th Executive Council (heads of diplomacy) and the 34th Session of the AU Assembly (Heads of State and Government).
At the PRC meeting, Angola will provide information on the Luanda Biennial - Pan-African Forum for the Culture of Peace, held in September 2020, according to a note from the Permanent Representation of Angola to the African Union.
The document reached Angop on Monday, states that, the session will discuss several reports, including the activities of the PRC subcommittees, the Specialised Technical Committees (STC) of the African Union Commission, other AU bodies and the Specialised Agencies.
The event will also focus on draft agenda and decisions of the 38th ordinary meeting of the Executive Council and the 34th ordinary session of the AU Assembly, scheduled for February 3-4 and 6-7, respectively.
The Executive Council agenda features the election and appointment of the six Commissioners of the AU Commission, four Judges of the Court African Human and Peoples' Rights and six Members of the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child.
In this Committee, Angola submitted an application, among five competitors from the Southern Region.
As for the AU Commission, the country eyes the re-election of the current Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Josefa Sacko, whose sector, changes its current name to Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy and Sustainable Environment from 2021-2024 period.
In turn, the agenda for the 34th Ordinary Session of Heads of State, whose face-to-face or virtual format has yet to be defined, will proceed to the election and appointment of the Chair and Vice Chair of the AU Commission.
The event will also adopt several reports, such that one on the progress of the AU Institutional Reform that will be presented by its leader, the President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame.
Félix Tshisekedi of Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) will succeed his South African counterpart Cyril Ramaphosa as the organisation’s rotating chairperson.

The year 2020 had as its theme "Silence Arms: Creating Favorable Conditions for Africa's Development".
