Luena - The eastern Moxico Province’s Delegation of the Migration and Foreigners Service (SME) registered a reduction of 85 expulsions of foreign citizens illegally staying in the country in 2023, compared to the previous period.

According to the SME/Moxico communication officer, Januário Miranda, who presented the balance of migratory acts in 2023, 130 inspection actions were carried out, with a reduction of 85 expulsions of foreigners illegally staying in the country.

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is the country with the most expelled citizens, representing 90%, followed by Zambia with 10%.

Conversely, the SME, which expelled 85 foreigners, received cases from 76 nationals expelled from the DRC and Zambia for illegal stay in their respective countries.

During this period, seven Zambian citizens and one Kenyan were refused entry to the country because they did not meet the requirements to settle in the country.

In 2023, the SME handled 1,128 processes for issuing and reissuing passports, of which 233 issued visas and resident ID for foreign citizens, with 44 passports yet to be delivered to their holders.

Januário Miranda said that there have been many cases of asylum applications from citizens who intend to settle in the country, with emphasis on Kenyans, Guineans and Mauritanians with a total of 403 cases.

Currently, the SME controls 798 foreign citizens in the province of Moxico, of which 403 are asylum seekers, 83 work visa holders, 98 residents and 136 with temporary stay.
