Luanda - The Minister of the Interior, Eugénio Laborinho, on Tuesday in Luanda swore in two female firefighters as deputy commissioners and provincial commanders of the Civil Protection and Fire Service of Bengo and Lunda-Sul province.
These are deputy commissioner Tembo Salemba, who was appointed and sworn in as provincial commander of the Civil Protection and Fire Service in Lunda-Sul, and deputy commissioner Clarice Tavares, who will hold the same position in Bengo.
This is an unprecedented act in the history of this central executive service where the positions of provincial commanders have always been held by men.
At the time, Eugénio Laborinho assured, at the swearing-in and imposition of ranks, that attention to gender in the department he heads is a permanent mission.
At the ceremony, which took place at the Main Fire Station in Luanda, several commissioned officers from the Migration and Foreigners Service (SME), the Penitentiary Service (SP) and the Civil Protection and Fire Service (SPCB) were also sworn in.
To those appointed and sworn in, the head of the Interior portfolio asked for commitment and dedication in carrying out their new duties.
"In these acts, we pay special attention to the issue of gender, which is why several women have been appointed to important positions, both at national and local level," he said.
The minister emphasized the fact that in the history of the Civil Protection and Fire Service, it is the first time that women were appointed as provincial commanders, which according to him, It will certainly encourage others to show their commitment to making the same thing happen to them".
