Luanda - The European Union (EU) intends to participate more intensively in the Project to Support the Strengthening of the National System for Asset Recovery (Pro React) in Angola.

Pro React is an initiative supported by the European Union, in the scope of support to economic governance and more specifically in the support to the Assets Recovery System, according to the representative of the EU ambassador to Angola.

Paulo Simões was speaking in the course on criminal investigation of money laundering, promoted on 13 to 15 March, in Luanda, by the Attorney General of the Republic (PGR), Criminal Investigation Service (SIC), Courts and the United Nations Organization on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Angola.

According to the official, the EU intends to multiply the available resources, taking into account the capital importance of this process for the country and for the Angolan society.

"This is a commitment assumed by the European Union, to join efforts with the Angolan authorities, in order to conceive a framework of coordinated and lasting initiatives", he said.

He also disclosed that a team of experts is working in Angola, in a field mission for the preparation of sectorial diagnosis that will serve to back the intervention proposal.

To the E.U representative, the full actuality of the criminal theme linked to corruption and money laundering, taken up by the national authorities as political priorities, has contributed to the significant improvement of the situation of justice in Angola.

"We still have a lot of work. One of the fronts of the fight is precisely  criminal investigation, particularly on money laundering", said Paulo Simões.

He hopes that the actions of human and institutional capacity building, carried out in this scope, will indeed bring important fruits with relevant and effective impact on the functioning of the justice institutions, in order to respond to the identified needs in the system.
