Ondjiva- The Vice-President of the Republic, Bornito de Sousa, said on Sunday that the history of resistance to the South African invasion registered in Cunene province, symbolises the starting mark of the liberation struggle of southern African countries.
Speaking to the press, he said that the Cunene represents the symbol of the resistance and the solidarity with the brotherly peoples, accomplishment of the legacy of the first President of the Republic, António Agostinho Neto, when he said in Namibia, Zimbabwe and South Africa is the continuation of our struggle.
Bornito de Sousa recalled that it was in this region where bombings were carried out and battles were fought, with particular emphasis on the Cahama and Môngua.
Meanwhile, he noted that the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Environment is drawing up a roadmap of the historical sites in Cunene province, in order to identify other battle sites that will serve as references for tourist visits and research on the country's history.
The Vice President also highlighted the importance of the rubble of the old Cunene commissariat, as a monument that brings to the new and old generations the drastic moments lived during the South African occupation period.
