The week was also marked by the presence, in Windhoek, of the Angolan President, at the funeral of Hage Geingob, who died on 4 February, at the age of 82, victim of cancer.

João Lourenço, also chairperson of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), said that this is a deeply sad event for the whole Africa, the southern region of the African continent and especially Namibia.

The opening of the 1st Parliamentary Plenary Session of OEACP-UE, which was attended by the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa was also highlighted.

During the opening ceremony, the official suggested that the Joint Parliamentary Assembly of African, Caribbean and Pacific States and the European Union (ACP-EU) should intensify the debate on development, with emphasis on economic partnership agreements.

She said that Economic Partnership agreements constitute a lever for technological development, transformation of food systems, increased trade and promotion of the blue economy and sustainable development.

On the same occasion, the President of the National Assembly (AN), Carolina Cerqueira, declared that the member states made history by laying the new foundations for the equal partnership, based on an institutional structure in favor of the people.

She argued that the OEACP-UE maintains the same focus, the same cohesion and the same determination to do more and better with resilience for the well-being of people.

Among the week’s highlights was also the meeting that the Vice-President of the Republic held with the Secretary General of the OEACP, Georges Chicoty, and the European Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jutta Urpilainen.
