Moçâmedes - The minister of Interior, Eugénio César Laborinho, urged this Wednesday in Namibe Province the Migration and Foreigners Service (SME) to do everything to follow the footsteps of the globalized world, in order to contribute to the attraction of foreign private investment.
Speaking at the event commemorating the 47th anniversary of the Migration and Foreigners Service (SME), the minister highlighted that the globalization dynamic combined with the need for greater openness in the area of foreign investment, it demands new challenges to the security forces, taking into account the need to ensure the security of the citizens and borders protection.
For this purpose the minister noted that it requires a well-balanced approach aiming to join migration and development towards the need to maintain national security, which demands the existence of qualified and trained staff so that they can interpret and implement the phenomena in a dynamic and contextualized way the public policies in the migration field.
Eugénio César Laborinho stressed that hierarchy and discipline must prevail within the security forces as it is part of the military culture.
To him, the SME staff must be exemplary and safeguard the State´s image towards national citizens and to foreign people who visit, invest, live or work in Angola.
“It is necessary that SME agents feel this responsibility on their shoulders. To feel that each one, wherever they are, represents the State, respecting and enforcing the Constitution and the law”, expressed the minister.
On the occasion, the provincial governor of Namibe recognized that the province stands out because of its tourism and industrial potential, which is why the SME is essential for the development of these sectors, as well as for the national economy.
He pointed out that these are sectors that lead the development of other activities such as culture, environment, trade, construction and transport, which are fields that will grow with greater openness to tourists and investors.
“The SME has a prominent role here in streamlining the process of granting tourist and business visas, as well as in improving the online visa acquisition system, making it easier and therefore more attractive to foreigners”, he added.
At the act, the minister offered three vehicles and computer equipment to the SME branch in Namibe Province.
During two days in Namibe Province, the Interior Minister, on Thursday will inaugurate the Municipal Integrated Center of the Ministry of Interior and will also offer vehicles, as well as will visit the Bentiaba commune aiming to evaluate the rehabilitation works of the Penitentiary establishment.
The Migration and Foreigners Service is a direct central executive body of the Ministry of Interior (MININT) and celebrates this Wednesday 47 years since it was created in 1976.
