Angola signed agreement on sexual reproductive health

Luanda - Angola and South Africa signed on Wednesday, in Cape Town, an agreement to implement reproductive health project with the Parliamentary Forum of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

The secretary-general of the National Assembly, Pedro Agostinho de Neri, and the secretary-general of the SADC Parliamentary Forum, Boemo Sekgoma, initialed the aforementioned agreement.

The memorandum provides for universal access to integrated sexual and reproductive health services and related rights, gender promotion, improved health and respect for human rights.

On the occasion, Pedro de Neri highlighted the importance of the agreement that aims to capacity building of parliamentarians to intervene in matters of sexual and reproductive health.

Cape Town (South Africa) hosted the extraordinary meeting of the Executive Committee and Presidents of the Parliamentary Forum of the Southern African Development Community (SADC-PF). The Angolan delegation was guided by the National Assembly Speaker, Carolina Cerqueira.

The event, under the motto "Striving to achieve oversight that ensures a better life for all South Africans", is the result of a partnership between the Forum of Speakers of Legislative Chambers of South Africa (SFSA) and the South African Parliamentary Institute (IPSA).

The Summit aims to promote reflection on the effectiveness of implementing constitutional mandates, explore transformational approaches and strategies to ensure effectiveness of sector supervision and share experiences, exchange ideas between regional, continental and international counterparts on supervision practices effective, as well as exploring partnerships and collaboration opportunities with relevant and critical intervention in the enforcement ecosystem.

The Angolan delegation includes the head of the National Monitoring Group for Regional Parliaments, parliamentarian Pedro Sebastião, and the secretary general of the National Assembly, Pedro Agostinho de Neri.

The SADC Parliamentary Forum is the regional inter-parliamentary body made up of parliamentarians from Member State Parliaments, representing more than 3,500 parliamentarians from Southern Africa.

Created by the SADC Summit on 8 September 1997, the Forum is composed of the president of the session and a maximum of five representatives elected by the Parliament of each Member State.

The aim is to provide a platform to support and improve regional integration through parliamentary participation and promote best practices in terms of the role of Parliaments in regional integration and cooperation.

The specific themes of the Parliamentary Forum focus on various issues, including the promotion of Human Rights, gender equality, good governance, democracy and transparency and peace promotion. OHA/CF/DOJ
