Cuito – One hundred and seventy-three people died from tuberculosis in the province of Bié, during the year of 2023, an increase of 13 compared to the previous period.
The municipality of Cuito leads the list of deaths, with 105, followed by Andulo (32), Nharea (16), Camacupa (16) and Chitembo (04).
Speaking to ANGOP, on Wednesday, the head of the public health and endemic disease control department, Isaías Cambissa, said that, in the aforementioned year, local health authorities reported 4,000 new cases, compared to the 4,240 from 2022.
Isaías Cambissa also said that, over the past year, 697 patients abandoned treatment, for different reasons.
The responsible also admitted that there is an insufficiency of medicines in health units to treat this disease.
Despite the increase in the morbidity and mortality rate, he said that the health sector has implemented several actions that aim to overcome the situation, namely holding lectures to clarify the dangers and forms of prevention. AS/PLB/CF/DOJ
