Mozambique - Health authorities in south-west Namibe province have urged the society to combat stigma and discrimination against patients recovered from Covid-19.
The appeal, mainly addressed to the families, was made by the spokesperson for Provincial Multi-sector Commission, Coríntios Miguel, while speaking to Angop.
The official expressed the sector’s concern about stigma and discrimination against the most of the patients who have recovered from Covid-19, from the community, families and closest friends.
Corintios Miguel said that such an attitude can contribute to the change of the citizen´s self-esteem and even cause some mental disorder.
He defended love for the others and the spirit of solidarity, as crucial to halt Covid-19 pandemic.
Namibe currently has 163 active cases, with age ranging from 1 to 70 years old.
The region also reports 33 recoveries and one death.
On the other hand, 150 citizens have been released from home quarantine.
