Menongue - The governor of Cuando Cubango, Júlio Bessa, on Saturday urged the young social activists who wanted to demonstrate on 11 November in Menongue, to strictly comply with the rules laid down in the Presidential Decree on the Situation of Public Calamity in the context of the fight against Covid-19.
The governor, who was speaking at a meeting with the young activists, recalled that the defence and security forces' obstruction of demonstrations aims to prevent the massive spread of positive cases of Covid-19 in the country and, in particular, in Cuando Cubango, at a time when it has only five mechanical and invasive ventilators, insufficient for the demand.
Julio Bessa advised young people to comply with all the preventive rules against Covid-19, laid down by the health authorities, because the treatment of the pandemic is complicated, especially for the most vulnerable people (the elderly and those with chronic diseases).
Julio Bessa expects young people, when they feel they have the right to claim, to take precedence over dialogue with the legal authorities, since there is this openness towards young people, rather than protests which are banned due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
