Luanda - Angola registered 32 new cases of covid-19 in the last 24 hours with seven patients recovered and no death recorded, the secretary of State for Public Health, Carlos Pinto, said Wednesday.
From the total of cases diagnosed, 22 happened in Luanda, 8 in Huila, 1 in Cabinda and 1 in Lunda Norte, aged between 9 and 61 years, 17 men and 15 women.
To date, Angola has registered 104,454 confirmed cases, 102,287 recovered, 1,922 deaths and 215 active cases (53 symptomatic and 162 asymptomatic).
ANGOP has learnt that Covid-19 cases are registered daily. The provinces with the highest number of cases, after Luanda, are Huambo, Cabinda, Benguela, Huila and Zaire, while Bengo has the lowest number of cases.
The health official added that from August to date there have been small outbreaks. After the number of cumulative cases dropped from August to September from 537 to 191, it increased again in October to 754, almost four times more than the previous month.
From November 1 to 14 at least 368 cases were registered in Angola, 310 of which in Luanda, which the Health Secretary said is believed to be related to the relaxation of the use of masks and low adherence to vaccination posts.
The Health official informed that the outbreak that occurred between May and July this year caused the death of 17 people and that in the months of August and September no deaths were registered.
The deaths from COVID-19 are characterized by the fact that they increase with age, with men being the most affected. The most affected age group is those over 60 years old, with more than a quarter of the total number of deaths. The male gender was the most affected with 62% of the total deaths that occurred.
Carlos Pinto appealed to the population to continue to wash hands with soap and water or alcohol and to get vaccinated.
"Those who have taken the first dose should do the second dose. Those who have two doses do the third dose and those who have done the third dose do the booster, because the vaccine is the best strategy to prevent COVID-19", the health official clarified.
