Sumbe - The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on Tuesday provided US$82 million to combat malaria, tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS in the provinces of Cuanza Sul and Benguela, ANGOP learned today.
The action will be carried out over three years and the amount will be used to buy medicine and carry out laboratory tests.
The information was provided, in Sumbe, by the UNDP representative in Angola, Edo Stork, highlighting the need to redouble efforts to combat the three diseases in these provinces.
According to the representative, his organisation is counting on social partners and the Health sector to eliminate the incidence of those diseases.
Speaking at a meeting with the UNDP representative in Angola, the provincial governor, Job Capapinha said it was an important contribution to the fight against malaria, HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis in the region.
He said that Cuanza Sul is a transition zone, so there is every need for health authorities to be well prepared to fight these diseases.
According to a source from the Directorate of Public Health and Endemic Control, at Cuanza Sul level over 50,000 cases of malaria, 20,000 of tuberculosis and 70 of HIV/AIDS are registered every year.
