Luanda – Angolan minister of Health Sílvia Lutucuta said Thursday in Luanda that public tenders for admission to the sector will continue until 2024, aimed to strengthening the health system and improving the quality of services.

Speaking at the opening of the First Workshop on “Clinical Protocols”, the minister reiterated the Executive's commitment to implement policies to improve the services and expertise of staff.

The minister said that the move is meant to ensure an increase in the number of professionals in the sector to guarantee adequate medical and drug assistance to the citizens.

The public tenders launched in 2018 and 2019, enabled the sector to hired 5, 465 health professionals.

"This gain increased the workforce of the National Health Service from 65, 294 to 87, 161 professionals, while the number of physicians rose to 7, 715 across the country", highlighted the minister.

Sílvia Lutucuta also said that 44, 615 professionals benefitted from the approval, in 2019, of the statutes of special health careers and remuneration.

Benefitted from the statutes of special careers include doctors, nurses, diagnostic technicians and therapists and hospital support technicians.

Sílvia Lutucuta said, on the other hand, that clinical protocols help standardise the types of treatment for certain diagnoses and in the acquisition of knowledge for patient care.

In turn, Secretary of State for the Hospital Area, Leonardo Europe, referred that the launch of clinical protocols aims to improve the quality of care, reduce waste and expenses in hospital units and improve patient safety.

Workshop tackles matters such as infectious disease, surgery, polytrauma, intensive care, gynecological and obstetrics areas, as well as chronic non-communicable diseases.
