Dundo - The Minister of Health, Silvia Lutucuta, announced this Friday in Dundo, Lunda Norte province, the beginning of an accelerated programme for training specialised staff in medical and nursing careers, with priority to family medicine.
Speaking to the press, the government official said that the specialisation plan for doctors and nurses would include technicians from the eastern region, in order to mitigate this need.
She said that the priority would be specialties that ensure primary health care, namely family medicine, obstetrics, paediatrics, orthopaedics, general surgery and anaesthesia.
She said that currently 14 technicians from the province of Lunda Norte were in Luanda and Lunda Sul to specialise.
According to the minister, the government is working so that by 2022 the construction of new health units with haemodialysis services are included in the General State Budget.
Lunda Norte province only has 60 doctors, including Angolans and expatriates, which is not enough to meet demand in the 113 health units in the region.
It needs at least 46 more doctors specialised in gynaecology/obstetrics, orthopaedics, surgery and general practice to meet the population's demand.
