Luanda – The World Health Organisation (WHO) appealed Monday to the Angolan Government to reinforce the health sector´s investment and build resilient system to deal with current challenges amid covid-19 pandemic.
The appeal was made by the new WHO representative in Angola, Djamila Cabral, at the end of an audience granted by the minister of Health, Sílvia Lutucuta.
The official said that all the support for Angola should be adapted to the new situation marked by Covid-19 pandemic.
For 2020/2021 period, the new WHO representative announced her organisation’s plan to support Angola with a value estimated at USD 35 million.
“We are already halfway through the execution of 21 million dollars, it is possible that these funds will increase by the end of 2021”, she said.
Djamila Cabral said that the assistance will initially cover health care and community health, adding that the issue is being analysed with the Ministry of health.
As for priorities for Angola, Djamila Cabral mentioned the combat Covid-19, as well as strengthening the health system, mainly in the fight against polio.
The WHO official highlighted the efforts made by the Angolan Executive in combat Covid-19 and praised the contingency measures adopted by the health sector to halt the spread of pandemic in the country.
In turn, the minister of Health, Sílvia Lutucuta, expressed her sector’s availability to continue to cooperate with the new WHO representative aimed to improve the people’s health situation in the last five years.
