Luanda - The Minister of State for Social Affairs, Carolina Cerqueira, Tuesday reiterated the country's commitment to the implementation of the United Nations Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
According to the Cabinet minister, who presented the first Voluntary National Report (RNV) during a video conference at the High Level Political Forum of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the programme is aligned with Agenda 2063 of the African Union, a long-term strategy for Angola for 2025, as well as its conformity with the National Development Plan.
With this report, Angola fits into the new global partnership, based on the spirit of solidarity, cooperation and mutual responsibility, placing people at the centre of development, in an Action Plan for People, Planet and Prosperity and aimed at strengthening universal peace and partnerships at the global level.
The 2030 Agenda, adopted in September 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly, involves diverse but interconnected areas in the three dimensions of sustainability - social, economic and environmental and emphasises the orientation of "leaving no one behind" and the eradication of poverty.
The report was prepared in an atypical context and at a crucial stage in the country's development process, beset by an economic and social crisis, due to the fall in the price of oil, which contributes about 90 per cent to the total revenue of national exports, and aggravated by the covid-19 pandemic, forcing the taking of exceptional measures to mitigate the negative effects on populations, families and businesses.
