Angola wins SADC Journalism Award

Luanda – Angola won two first place awards in the categories of Radio and Television, and a second place award in the Press category, of the SADC Award for Journalism 2022 Edition, it was learned this Wednesday, in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo.

The official announcement took place during the 42nd Summit of Heads of
State and Government of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), which takes place from the 17th to the 18th of this month, with the participation of an Angolan delegation headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, who is representing President João Lourenço.


In the Radio and Television categories, Angola won the competition, winning first place, with works submitted to the contest by the journalists
Aristides Kito (from the National Radio of Angola) and Cândido Calombe (from the Public Television of Angola-TPA ) respectively.


In Radio, a category in which four proposals were in dispute, the Angolan
work entitled “Impact of the locust plague on food security in SADC” won the prize, while in Television, which had five nominations, the winning work is titled “Importance of the Zaire River in SADC”.


As far as the Press category is concerned, the competitor from Angola,
Jaquelino Figueiredo, from Jornal de Angola, presented the work entitled
“Cross-border trade between Angola and the DRC – A sought-after trade route but that needs to remove obstacles”, which deals with the trade route in the border between Angola and Democratic Congo, both SADC member countries.


No Angolan participated this year in the Photojournalism category, which
featured six competitors in this edition of the SADC Journalism Awards.


Therefore, journalists Aristides Kito and Cândido Calombe, from RNA and TPA respectively, will receive an individual cash prize of USD$2,500.00, for winning first place in their respective categories; while Jaquelino Figueiredo will be awarded the amount of USD$1,000.00 , for the second place in the Press category.


This year, the award's central theme was the promotion of integrity and
cooperation of SADC member countries.

 

The contest was open to all journalists, as citizens of a SADC member country, whose work were published from January 1st to December 31st 2021.
