Cuito - The Angolan Red Cross (CVA) intends to expand, from April this year, assistance to families victims of calamities in the province of Bié, from three humdred to almost a thousand, within the scope of the financing that the partners intend to ensure.
At this time, 300 families in the municipality of Cuito and the municipalities of Trumba, Cunje, Cambândua and Chicala are being assisted with 86.000Kz ($103,8) for each household, to purchase construction materials, to restore their homes.
The information was released today, Monday, in the city of Cuito, by the CVA's secretary in Bié, Ângelo Sassango, on the sidelines of the II meeting of the Government of this province, led by the local governor, Pereira Alfredo.
For this program to be successful, groups were created in the communities and more than 30 agents were trained, for its extension to other municipalities, aiming to reduce the current need that families face.
Across the province of Bié, 11,598 people were left homeless, with the destruction of 1,933 homes, due to the rain and strong winds that hit this region, from December 2022 until November last year.
The rain also destroyed school institutions, religious temples, police stations, electrical and public lighting systems, political party committees as well as some bridges.
The Civil Protection and Fire Service also registered 14 deaths due to electrical discharge. JEC/PLB/CF/DOJ
