Cuito - Three hundred families affected by the rain in the municipality of Cuito, Bié province, received today, Friday, 86,000 kwanzas each from the Angolan Red Cross (CVA), to purchase construction materials, to restore their homes.
The families were selected in the neighborhoods of Cangala, Cantiflas, Embala, Ilha, Catemo, Cangagawe (surrounding the capital), Camalaia, Caiundo (Cunje commune) and the Trumba community headquarters, within the scope of the Emergency Program of this philanthropic organization.
For Ana Paula da Fonseca, national coordinator of disaster management at the Red Cross of Angola (CVA), the action aims to help victims acquire lollipops and other materials to restore houses destroyed by the rain or to acquire basic necessities.
The project is funded by the International Federation of the Red Cross, in the amount of 188 thousand dollars, which is being used to support victims of accidents in the provinces of Bié, Luanda and Malange.
Ana Paula da Fonseca recalled the importance of legal authorities in the region, in guiding the population in choosing land to build houses, essentially avoiding risk areas.
Meanwhile, Cristina Vacanda, one of the victims of the rain, highlighted that the amount will be used to purchase zinc sheets, nails and others for the rehabilitation of her home, in order to improve her family's quality of life.
Josefina Nomundo, 45 years old, mother of five children, resident of the Catemo neighborhood, in the municipality of Cuito, said that she currently lives in a rented house, without the minimum living conditions, essentially a lack of electricity and drinking water.
“I am suffering a lot, I thank the CVA and the Government, who thought of helping homeless families. The suffering is over, as the money will be used to purchase construction materials and other essential goods,” she explained. BAN/PLB/MRA/DOJ
