Luanda - Angolan minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Media Manuel Homem reiterated Friday support of the Executive in the process of integral modernisation of the Angolan news agency (Angop-E.P).

In his message, ahead of 45 years of existence of the only news agency in the country, Manuel Homem stressed the intention to guarantee plural, independent, rigorous, impartial and responsible information.

The minister said that this support aims to ensure development in the human, editorial and technological chapters.

Manuel Homem also encouraged the Angop professionals and officials to continue their action of collecting, processing and distributing news in the country and abroad, based on objective and credible information on national and international news.

The company was created in July 1975 under the name of Agência Nacional Angola Press (ANAP). At that time, the work was distributed in the form of a newsletter.

In October of the same year, ANGOP adopted its current and definitive name, Angola Press Agency (ANGOP), under the proposal of the President of the Republic, António Agostinho Neto.

Angop launched its first dispatch on 30th of October, under the new acronym.

Three years later, on February 2, 1978, the agency was transformed into a State-run  Media House, with the publication of presidential decree 11/78, of February 2, in the Diário da República.

In the 1980s ANGOP already had around 300 workers, most of them journalists, operating 24 hours a day, throughout the country’s 18 provinces, with five delegations (Portugal, Brazil, United Kingdom, Zimbabwe and Congo).

In 2013, Angop started with a technological and human environment in constant transformation and updating, in line with the modernity of the means of telecommunications and social communication, factors that contribute to the realization of its great challenge and dream, that of becoming a great multimedia company.
