Talatona – The National Children Institute (INAC) foresees a considerable reduction in the number of homeless minors in Luanda, by the end of this year, with the implementation of social programmes for family inclusion.
One of the projects is Kwenda, designed by the Executive to transfer a fixed monthly income of 8,500 kwanzas to vulnerable families.
Speaking to the press on the sidelines of the festivities that mark, this Wednesday, in Luanda, the central act of the International Children's Day, the director of INAC, Paulo Calesi, said that at least 1,200 children are still in the streets begging for alms.
Based on statistical data, he said that in 2020 the number of homeless children in Luanda was approximately two thousand, a figure that increased due to the impact of Covid-19 and the consequent interruption of classes.
He added that from January to May 2021 there was a reduction in children without shelter of about 800 cases.
Regarding the process of adopting minors, he said that there is a preference for very young children.
The central act of the International Children's Day took place at the Boa Vida condominium, in the municipality of Belas, and was attended by more than 1,500 children from the nine municipalities in the Province of Luanda.
The minister of Social Action, Family and Promotion of Women, Faustina Inglês Alves, the Secretary of State for the Family and Promotion of Women, Elsa Bárber, the Secretary of State for Human Rights and Citizenship, Ana Celeste Januário, the UNICEF representative in Angola, Geovanne da Mato, and several guests.
