Malanje- Angola’s First Lady Ana Dias Lourenço Monday stressed the permanent professional and academic training for rural women aimed to empower them and enhance their social affirmation.

In her speech, the First Lady defended the need for cooperation by central and provincial governments, through the creation of conditions for this purpose which reflects on the life and rural economy of the family in the country.

 

Ana Lourenço delivered her speech at the opening of the rural women's forum held via videoconference, under the promotion of the Ministry of Social Action, Family and Promotion of Women, ahead of the International Rural Women Day to be celebrated on October 15.

 

"I believe that the time has come to create the necessary conditions for rural women to develop their full potential, empowering them with new knowledge and new tools and opening doors to opportunities for development and recognition of their role in the future of the country's economy," the First Lady has said.

 

In turn, the provincial governor of Malanje, Norberto dos Santos "Kwata Kanawa", reiterated Angolan Government’s availability to make rural women a priority, calling for the need to focus and support them.

 

While, the FAO representative in Angola, Guerda Barreto, said to acknowledge the Angolan government's efforts to create conditions aimed to improve the activities of rural women and fighting hunger and poverty in the communities.

 

The one-day event addressed aspects related to the empowerment of women, processing of field products, conservation and handling of agricultural fields, among other aspects.
