Luanda - Angolan minister of Telecommunications, Information Technology and Social Communication Mário Augusto Silva de Oliveira Wednesday in Luanda challenged the State-run “Edições Novembro” News Paper to create a page devoted to training and educating people on responsible use of social media.

He is of the view that the creation of this page would focus on combat fake news, with a view to clarifying the damage they can cause in the lives of citizens, companies and the country.

The minister also directed the company’s board of directors to set up small stands in Luanda-based condominiums for the sale of newspapers as well as to establish partnerships with small agents and meet customers.

At the end of the visit, aimed to assess the company, the official said that another challenge is to invest in the training of staff, use of ICTs and the dissemination of national information.

" Edições Novembro and the titles should not be only restricted to the information, but also as a source of training", he stressed. The official reiterated his commitment to training staff to improve the performance of the Media.

Accompanied by the Secretary of State for Social Communication, Nuno Caldas, the minister Mário de Oliveira said that the training of staff will cover all specialists and technicians in the sector.

The minister announced plans to create a connection between the new and the old generation, with the aim of sharing their experience and knowledge with the younger ones.

He also mentioned the need to make companies profitable, focusing on the commercial part, with the creation of important solutions in terms of economic and financial point of view.

"The sector has initiated a series of technological and organisational reforms in the different media. We will also work to monitor the improvement of facilities to allow our employees to be better installed and to be able to perform their role better", he explained.

The challenges, according to the minister, include the use of information technologies, improving the organisation, ranking on freedom of the press, plurality of information, among others.

In turn, the CEO of Edições Novembro, Drumund Jaime, explained that the facelift works of the company are at 90 percent and will be completed in November this year.

Drumund Jaime said that they will invest in training staff, increasing the production and circulation of the newspaper across the country and using ICTs.

The company was founded on June 26, 1976.
