Uíge – The door-to-door garbage collection model, in progress since February this year, in the city of Uíge, is giving a new look to the headquarters of the province with the same name, ANGOP found.
The project was implemented, in the first phase, in the neighborhoods of Mbemba Ngango, Quixicongo, Popular, the city center and the centrality of Quilomosso.
At the press conference, regarding the implementation of the new solid waste collection model, the municipal administrator of Uíge, José Raimundo Teca, explained that, in the past, the population deposited waste in containers or in some places (on the ground), to then be collected.
In case of delay in garbage collection, in the previous model, it would be concentrated in several areas of the city of Uíge, creating dumps, due to the excess concentration of solid waste.
This situation degraded the good look of the city of Uíge, putting the health of the population at risk.
José Raimundo Teca explained that the new collection model, which has the motto “Identify yourself with the municipality, cleaning the city”, will avoid the concentration of waste in urban areas and put an end to waste disposal points, as well as avoiding the damage to sidewalks and pavements.
In relation to the peripheral areas of the city of Uíge, the administrator said that the construction of places for garbage disposal is planned.
One month after the implementation of the project, José Raimundo Teca made a positive assessment, adding that there will be prizes for residents, zungueiras and other citizens who volunteer to improve the basic sanitation of their place of residence or sale.
The new waste collection model, initiated by the Municipal Administration of Uíge, involves youth associations, sobas, among other social groups. EPP/JAR/DOJ
