Lubango – The number of pensioners in the country went from 132,176 in 2018 to 196,302 in the first quarter of the current year, corresponding to a growth of 48,51%.
The data were made public Wednesday by the minister of Public Administration, Labour and Social Security (MAPTSS), Teresa Rodrigues Dias, during the Consultative Council of this ministerial department that takes place in Lubango Municipality, southern Huila Province, under the motto “Assessment of the results and goals of the sector, 2018-2022”.
Teresa Rodrigues Dias said that the number of insured people, workers protected under the Compulsory Social Security System (CSSS), registered an increase of 843,195 from 1.6 million to 2.1 mln, corresponding to an increase of 38.89%.
The minister emphasized that the aim is to encompass different categories and attract more workers into the Compulsory Social Security System (CSSS).
She reinforced that the self-employed, involved in low income generating activities have also been catered for, provided that they reach a 50 percent contribution rate.
However, in the scope of the organization and functioning of the CSSS management entity, the National Social Security Institute (INSS), the pensioners are now free to choose the bank where they wish to receive their due benefits.
