Cacuso - The Commander-General of the National Police, Arnaldo Manuel Carlos, reaffirmed Saturday, in north-central Malanje Province, the corporation’s commitment to the fight against trafficking of human beings in Angola, so as to curb the growing trend of this crime at the level of the countries of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

Speaking on the sidelines of the closing of the first phase of the 20th basic police course at the Northern Regional Training Centre, the commander-general said the matter was discussed recently at the General Assembly of the SADC police commissioners, which recommended a joint action by the member-states.

In addition to trafficking of human beings, the Angolan Police chief said another concern is the destruction of public property in the region, especially power cabins and water pipes, crimes regarding which the police will be "relentless".

The National Police chief added that more officers are being trained to join the Response and Patrol Units, whose mission will be to intervene in acts of disturbance and serious violations of public order.

Regarding the general elections of August 24, Arnaldo Carlos assured that the police is prepared to intervene and maintain public order and tranquility, being at this time in permanent harmony with all actors involved in the process.

The Commander-General of the National Police led the closing of the basic police course, which allowed the tranfer of 500 former Angolan Armed Forces personnel to the National Police.
