Luanda - Eight athletes from the national senior women's soccer team, which are preparing to participate in the COSAFA tournament, from 03 to 14 November in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, have tested positive for Covid-19.

According to a note from the Angolan Federation of the sport, which ANGOP had access last Wednesday, in Luanda, the national coach also tested positive.

The governing body's document does not mention names, but explains that both the athletes and the coach, asymptomatic, were dismissed and are in isolation.

ANGOP has learnt that the pair of ex-internationals Maninho Loide and Chinha, until then deputy coaches, will take charge of the national team.

In this event, Angola already obtained the second position in 2008, in Malanje, after losing in the final to South Africa, by 1-3.

At the 2006 debut in Zambia, the squad did not pass the group stage.

Founded in 1983, the Southern African Football Association Council, officially abbreviated as COSAFA, is an association of football federations from the Southern African region.
