Angola boosts import of fertilizers

Luanda - Angola has tripled the amount of fertilizers to boost the agricultural sector, with an import of over 140.000 tons, which entered the country from 2016 to the present date.

The data were disclosed on Thursday in Luanda by the Agriculture Minister, Marcos Nhunga, who considered 2017 "a special year" in view of the imported volume.

"This is a special year for the agriculture sector because we have tripled the amount of fertilizers that normally enters the country," he told journalists on the sidelines of the 1st Joint Session of the Economic and Real Economy commissions of the Council of Ministers.

The official explained that the average import of fertilizers was 40,000 tons / year.

According to the minister, all this effort was due to the engagement of the Government, which made available foreign exchange for the import, in a massive way, of fertilizers for the whole national territory.

He appreciated the efforts of the Executive, but stressed that even more it is necessary to do more.

Regarding prices, he reported that five months ago the bag of 12 or 24 doses of 50 kilos of it cost 30.000 to 35.000 kwanzas in the local market of these products, fertilizers.
