Ondjiva - Angola's minister of Agriculture and Forests António de Assis on Wednesday said the development of agriculture and cattle breeding entails technical and scientific training of the Angolan farmers.

Addressing a sector’s Counsultative Council’s Meeting on Wednesday in Ondjiva, southern Cunene province,  Antonio Assis also defended the improvement of logistics and the flow of products to the markets.

The minister also spoke of the need to improve knowledge and logistical aspects to make the sector productive and sustainable.

António de Assis acknowledged that agricultural production in Angola has not achived the desired level yet due to the poor technical knowledge of the farmers.

To change the picture, he spoke of the need of permanent training of peasant families and small farmers, to improve the infrastructure of agricultural production and the flow of product.

He also asked commitment toward the topics discussed in order to ensure the adoption of solutions that allow the re-launch of agriculture in Angola, so as to avoid the imports of the basic products.

The two-day event will review the report for the 2018/2019 agricultural year, the state of preparation of the 2019/2020 agricultural year.

The participants will also discuss the Credit Support Programme (PAC) and the restructuring of the Agriculture Development Fund (FADA).
