Laúca to reach 2,070 MW production in October

Laúca / Malanje - The Laúca Hydroelectric Power Plant will reach, by October this year, its maximum capacity of 2,070 megawatts of production, with the entry into operation of the sixth production unit (334 MW) and the ecological plant (66.5 MW).



Currently, there are five turbines in operation with 334 megawatts each, making a total of 1,670 megawatts, consumed by the provinces of Malanje, Cuanza Norte, Cuanza Sul, Zaire, Uíge, Bengo, Luanda, Benguela, Huambo, Bié and very soon the interconnections of the provinces of Huila and Namibe.

The information was released  last Thursday to ANGOP, by the general director of the Laúca Hydroelectric Development, Elias Estêvão, on the sidelines of the 10th Consultative Council of the Ministry of Energy and Waters, which is taking place in the referred hydroelectric enterprise, currently the largest in the country.

According to the source, at this point the civil works for the sixth turbine are being concluded, which will be followed by tests for their start-up.

Elias Estêvão said that the project, to be concluded in December this year, will increase the availability of power and consequently increase the number of consumers at the country level.
