Bengo predicts 14.2 percent harvest increase

Caxito - Northern Bengo province?s agricultural campaign for 2019/20 may reach as many as 1.1 million tons, an increase of 14.2 percent compared to the previous period, when the region produced 986,066 tons of various products.


The rise results from the five agricultural mechanisation brigades of 50 machines and one mechanised of civil construction brigade that help boost the process.

“In the first agricultural season of 2019/2020 the region cultivated 108,000 hectares”, said the provincial director of agriculture and fisheries, Faustino Ngonga.

Ngonga, who was speaking to Angop, predicted the production increase, but he would not compare the figures.

He said that of the six municipalities of the province, Nambuangongo topped the list of the major center for cassava production.

The agriculture sector handles 118 cooperatives and 155 peasants associations.
