BNA grants Unitel license for financial services

Luanda - Angola?s National Reserve Bank (BNA) granted a license of Payment Service Provider to Unitel Mobile Financial Services (SU), S.A, at the request by the latter.

The concession of license is based on the dispatch of the Central Bank governor, José de Lima Massano, dated on 16 October.

The move is part of the priority of actions of the National Plan for Financial Inclusion meant to provide the population with greater access to the financial services network. 

The move is also intended to expand the financial inclusion throughout the mobile and immediate transfers also know as mobile payments or mobile money. 

After the launch of the bank accounts Bankita and the simplified accounts, BNA makes a step forward to increase the number of citizens with access to basic financial services equivalent to 50% of the adult population until the end of 2022. 

On the other hand, in view of the role of the financial inclusion in the  economic development,  the Central Bank of Angola has taking part in  actions focused on the creation of a modern and inclusive economic payment system. 

The new law on payment system, whose content will allow the operation of new types of financial institution (fintechs) as well as the Innovation Payment System Laboratory (www.lispa.ao), are among the actions.
